What are the Count-IT API and the MCP server?
An API (application programming interface) is a fixed way for software to talk to other software. Through the Count-IT API, your own software, your website or a custom integration can retrieve data from Count-IT and, where permitted, modify it. It is a REST API with OAuth2: your software asks for permission, you approve it in Count-IT and choose which data the app may use. Ready-made integrations with accounting, web shops and carriers can be found under integrations; the API is for everything you want to build yourself.
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that AI assistants use to connect to other systems. With the Count-IT MCP server, an AI assistant that supports MCP, such as ChatGPT or Claude, can consult your data. You enable AI data access per administration and create a personal MCP token. The assistant then works within the rights of you as the creator of the token.
This lets you ask an assistant questions about your data in plain language, or have it update products, translations and web pages if you allow it. You decide the access level and check what the assistant changes. Do you need data or functions that are not included yet? Based on your needs, we make (nearly) everything available through the API and MCP. Get in touch and tell us what you need.
