POS system for butchers

POS system for butchers, delicatessens and fresh-food specialists

Weighing at the counter, scanning weighed pre-packed products and taking orders for the holidays: Count-IT works with a verified Digi scale and keeps your point of sale, orders and regular customers in one system.

In short

Count-IT is a POS system for butchers, delicatessens, cheese shops and other fresh-food specialists. The point of sale works with a verified Digi AD-2000 scale, recognises barcodes of weighed products and supports fractional quantities. Orders, business customers on account and your own products with ingredients are managed in the same system.

  • Weighing at the point of sale with a verified Digi scale
  • Barcodes with weight or price, also through GS1 weight templates
  • Pre-orders, for example for the holidays, as an order with a delivery date

What does a butcher need from a POS system?

In a butcher's or fresh-food specialist you sell a lot by weight. A customer asks for 300 grams of mince or a piece of cheese, and the price follows from what the scale shows. That requires a verified scale, and the point of sale must take over the weight reliably. On top of that you sell pre-packed products with a barcode that contains the weight or the price, and items per piece.

With Count-IT you add a Digi AD-2000 scale in the hardware settings. You mark a product as a weighed product, and at the point of sale you weigh it with the weigh button. The scale itself is verified; how to keep it accurate is explained in the instructions for the verified scale. On the customer display the customer can follow the weight.

A butcher or caterer is often also a small producer: you make your own sausages, salads, gourmet platters or cheese boards. In Count-IT you record per product which ingredients and packaging materials go into it. And around the holidays you take orders with a collection date, so you know what needs to be ready. Business customers, such as a restaurant, buy from you on account at their own prices.

Features

How Count-IT helps your butcher's or specialist shop

Everything revolves around the same products and prices, at the counter, on orders and online.

Weighing with a verified scale

Count-IT works with the Digi AD-2000 scale or a configured app scale. Switch on Weight in the point of sale settings and place the weigh button in your action button layout. The scale calibrates when the point of sale starts up.

Barcodes with weight or price

Set a barcode prefix for weighed products, so the point of sale recognises barcodes on pre-packed products. If you work with GS1 weight templates, the point of sale takes the weight from the scan.

Weight and fractional quantities

Sell in quantities such as 0.5 or 1.25 with Use fractional quantities. You decide whether delivery and stock of weighed products are recorded as a quantity or as quantity plus weight.

Orders for the holidays

Take an order at the point of sale as an order with a collection date, optionally with a deposit. Or let customers pre-order through your own online ordering page with a chosen collection time. With order limits you cap how much can be ordered per day.

Customer display

On the customer display the customer sees the products, prices and total. For weighed products you set the font size of the product, label and weight separately.

Business customers on account

If you supply restaurants or caterers, you sell on account and collect the deliveries in a periodic invoice. Business customers can also order themselves through the ordering portal, at their own prices.

Own products with ingredients

Record the ingredients and packaging materials with quantities for your own products. You can also put ingredients and allergens in the product description, so customers see them online. The production list totals how much of each ingredient you need for your orders. Production with ingredients and packaging is part of the Full plan.

Regular customers and prices

Recognise regular customers in the CRM, let them collect loyalty points and give customer-specific prices or price lists. With inventory management and the order advice you keep track of your purchasing.

How it works

How to work with the scale at the point of sale

  1. Connect the scale

Add the Digi scale in the hardware settings and switch on Weight in the point of sale settings.

  2. Set up weighed products

Mark the products you sell by weight as weighed products and, if needed, set a barcode prefix for weighed products.

  3. Weigh and check out

Put the product on the scale, press the weigh button and the point of sale takes over the weight. The customer follows along on the customer display.

To be fair

What Count-IT does not (yet) do for butchers

So you know in advance whether it fits.

  • Best-before dates and batch or lot numbers are not tracked; the date and lot number in a GS1 barcode are not used.
  • There is no production planning (MRP); you do record ingredients and packaging per product and see in the production list what needs to be made for orders.
  • Count-IT works with the Digi AD-2000 or a configured app scale. If you already have a different scale, have it checked in advance to see whether it can be used.
Frequently asked questions

Questions about a POS system for butchers

Which scale can I connect to Count-IT?

Count-IT works with the Digi AD-2000 scale or a configured app scale. You add the scale in the hardware settings, switch on Weight in the point of sale settings and place the weigh button in your action button layout. Also take a look at our hardware.

Is the scale verified?

The Digi scale you use for selling by weight is verified: it meets the legal requirements for accuracy. Do not move or knock it unnecessarily, and make sure nothing is on it when the point of sale starts up. More in the instructions for the scale.

Can the point of sale read barcodes on pre-packed meat or cheese?

Yes. With a barcode prefix for weighed products the point of sale recognises barcodes with weight or price. If you use GS1 weight templates, do not also switch on Convert GS1 product barcode, because a direct product match then takes priority and the weight from the scan is not used.

How do I take orders for Christmas?

Record the order at the point of sale as an order with a collection date, optionally with a deposit, or let customers pre-order online through your own ordering page. With order limits and blocked dates you prevent more being ordered than you can make in a day.

Can I sell to restaurants on account?

Yes. Select the customer at the point of sale and finish as an invoice or order on account, or collect deliveries in a periodic invoice. With customer prices and price lists the restaurant gets the agreed price. Read more in the knowledge base on invoices.

Is Count-IT also suitable for a cheese shop or delicatessen?

Yes. Any shop that sells by weight and per piece can work with the scale, weight barcodes and fractional quantities. For gift hampers and platters you use bundles or your own products with ingredients.

Can Count-IT track best-before dates or batches?

No. Count-IT does not track best-before dates or batch or lot numbers. Serial numbers are supported, but they are intended for individual items.
